VFR Into KIAH Houston Intercontinental | Grumman Tiger | One Minute

Last week, I had the opportunity to pick up a friend coming into Houston Intercontinental on a commercial flight. It's very rare to see a single engine airplane fly into such a big airport, but that wasn't the only challenge I had to fight. After a change of runways due to a direct crosswind, I still ended up landing with a 14 knot crosswind component. This flight was definitely a challenge.

    Nice. I didn't realize you were flying in OKC until the tower mentioned Wiley Post. Several years I wrote an article on the Hefner-Overholser bicycle/pedestrian trail that shows up about 9:44 when you're on final. It's the squiggly trail just outside the perimeter fence on the northwest corner of the airport.

    Nice little evening hop. Oh, yeah and props for the sign. How was the prom? Always, always, always call "clear". Get casual about that and the one day it matters is the day "clear!" is skipped.

    It only takes one hand on the yoke to fly that airplane, the other should be on the throttle when taking off, Landing or doing those flight maneuvers. Not a good habit to get in to. Just an observation!

    Hi there,Hannah he a is a bit of a smoothy 😎,I am only kidding,tell him you will only go to the Prom if he takes you up in a Lear jet ✈ and flies you to somewhere nice and warm for a nice break,also tell him you have been asked 6 times and he will be number 7,so you will need to think about it before you make up your mind,by the way I am in Scotland just in case you wondered were I am from,take care and all the best to you both,enjoy your prom together.

      E T ????? What’s your point? It was blocking a corner a tiny bit of the windshield and all other windows are clear. A mixture between ATC Radar, ADS-B and looking out the windows is enough. Stop flying from your computer seat. You would be a fool not to use the technology we have today.

    I wonder who teaches; "no more usable runway..." We always taught "positive rate / gear up" Maybe that's old school that says the bird isn't going to continue accelerating in the second segment climb and the runway is infinitely long? I dunno, For performance in an emergency I would always rather have the better rate of climb with the gear up right away.

    • @andrewm1058
      @andrewm1058 3 роки тому

      If you takeoff a 6,000ft runway with 4,000ft remaining and the engine stops 4 seconds after rotate you'll still have plenty of runway ahead to land and your gear will still be down.

    • @gendaminoru3195
      @gendaminoru3195 3 роки тому

      @@andrewm1058 right and you are not accelerating in an Arrow and the field there would be 3x the accelerate stop distance.
